......Leaders – let YOUR people process CHANGE(s) - WITH YOU!
A very common mistake made by leaders occurs in the midst of significant CHANGE or NEWS from higher... Here’s a common scenario and mindset of the not well-thought through management behavior:
· News (change) comes rolling down from above.
· Leader takes time to digest, process, be upset about, bellyache about, be concerned about, ask questions upward, wonder about his/her job, etc
(GET THE PICTURE HUH?)
· Leader pauses and out of obligation & responsibility - passes the information/change, news downward
· Leader returns to personally ‘…digest, process, be upset about, bellyache about, be concerned about, ask question upward, wonder about his/her job, etc…’
Leader in an attempt to not let this all be too distracting goes quiet regarding the news and moves on with things (after of course having had some questions answered and some peace re-gained from above...personally).
Where are his/her people in their minds right now?
They are worried, concerned, distracted and being non-productive because? ….said ‘leader’ didn’t allow them to have the time to converse, process with their leader, get questions answered. The people down below are wondering about their jobs, making up stories in their heads due to limited information, in somewhat of a paralysis, etc.
(GET THE PICTURE HUH?)
Leaders frequently ‘attempt’ to take care of their people by not talking about the news or change. In fact, this is NOT TAKING CARE OF YOUR PEOPLE in reality!
*This is all multiplied when the CHANGE / NEWS involves people being let go suddenly, firings, downsizing, etc…..
LEADERS ARE THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL CHANGE!!!
