I picked up (from a friend) what seems to me, to be a great analogy of the dynamics that can kill a culture - whether speaking of a community, workplace, or team!
So picture this: A plane is all loaded up with people ready to take off. The plane is all set to go to some amazing place or destination (try to vision some great place in your mind). The people have ALL brought along an abundance of 'baggage'. The plane attempts to take off - only to discover there is too much weight on board. The people are told the plane cannot take off until 'we discard some or maybe most of the baggage' each of us is carrying. The people complain their baggage is important & it cannot be left behind. So the plane tries to take off over & over & over again, with no success. 'The baggage must be left behind or we cannot get to our destination'', the Captain tells all. He actually tries to paint a vision for how good it will be if/when we get there. ALL or maybe most the people stand pat, not willing to give up their baggage. This insanity continues with baggage still aboard......
....................How does this relate to your community, workplace or team? Is unnecessary baggage weighting you down, keeping you from achieving the goal, the vision, success, or simply accomplishing where ALL want to GO?
...................Are YOU carrying baggage (bad relations, grudges, UN-forgiveness, maybe even hate, UN-willingness to admit you are/were wrong, etc) UN-necessarily?!?
Most leaders & people do not want to deal with the baggage. How about YOU? Is your baggage really needed?
